Q: I know that some ZIP Codes lie within more than one county, but your data only includes one. How do you decide which county to include with the ZIP Code database?
A: Yes, ZIP Codes can cross county lines. In this case we use the county that has the most mailing addresses for the ZIP Code.
Q. What population figures do I add together to get to the "Total Population"?
A. In our ZIP5Demographic database you would add the following races to be able to derive the "Total Population": White, Black, American Indian, Asian, Pacific Islander, Other, and Two Plus Races. Do **NOT** include Hispanic in the calculation.
You will not be able to calculate the "Total Population" if you are using our ZIP5Basic database as it only includes White, Black and Hispanic population figures.
Q. How can a ZIP Code be listed more than once in your databases?
A. A ZIP Code can have any number of alias names and each one is listed in our databases. For example, as of November 2006, San Juan, Puerto Rico had the most city aliases with 137. Even though the city has that many names, the USPS prefers "SAN JUAN". This record has been flagged in both of our databases as the "Primary Record" as we populate the "Primary Record Flag" with "Y". If you're using the data to find only the primary name for a city then simply limit your query to those records with "Y" in the "Primary Record Flag" column. There is no need to limit your query if your application needs a list of all possible city names (city alias).
Q: I want to use your ZIP5Demographic database in one of our in-house applications. There will be approximately 30 users that will need access to the data. What license do I need?
A: Since you are only using the data internally for your organization you only need the "Enterprise License" that comes standard with all of our database products. This license allows any number of users to use the data within your organization.
Q: I'd like to display your ZIP Code and demographic data on a single web site. Which license do I need to purchase?
A: Since you are displaying the data outside your organization you will need to purchase a "Distribution License". In addition, you'll need to limit the number of queries that individual users can run against your database.
